The Weekend

THis weekend was 'bunkin' girls weekend'... because for the last couple weekends either friends have been in town or boyfriends have come to visit. Miranda and I decided to check some things off our lists this weekend.
We haven't been on a Mirlouise date in awhile so we decided to try a new place in Queens for dinner and rent movies.
We went to this place called The Queens Kirkshaw. It is a grilled cheese/ beer/ coffee place. Very unique with a great style. Miranda ( the beer adventurer) tried a new beer and I (the wine gal) had a glass of white.
We also tried their tomato soup (because naturally you must have tomato soup with your grilled cheese). Now these grilled cheeses are not your typical cheese, bread and butter.... Miranda had the Gouda which had black bean hummus, guava jam( dont understand that) pickled jalapenos among other things and I had the FOntina VAl d' Aosta which is short for cheese, mushrooms, pesto and focaccia. They were good except for the jam!

Pretty, right?

After our girl talk/ grilled cheese date, we went and talked around Queens and found a new area and a RED BOX! First time I have seen one here! I haven't seen any movies lately so it was time.

So After the date night, and some sleep we went to Manhattan for the day.

We strayed into a wholesale jewelry shop.... unlike Eloise, Miranda hasn't done a lot of accessory shopping. SO we HAD to go in.
After an hour, we emerged from the store and she now owns
8 bracelets
5 necklaces
3 earrings
2 headbands
6 rings

THe grand total was about $60! She is now the BARGAIN QUEEN!

A couple rings were for me, BUT they were only $1- $2!
We do love NEW YOrk for its shopping.

Later in the day after going to a museum with our friend Kellie and eating fried chicken at a random place, we headed to our next favorite... CHINA TOWN!

China Town is our favorite shopping location because we love the random stuff. We don't go after the fake CHannel, Coach, or D&G, we go and find the stores off of Canal that sell $20 shoes! Great finds!

We always find great finds, if only we could always have the money in our wallets!

After a day of shopping we got on our subway and headed back to Queens, changed and headed back to China Town for an 80's Party!
Best eighty's show I have seen!

That is right... Rubix Kube!

Sunday was hard to get up for but we made it to Church on time! We decided to try Redeemer. Pretty good but Tim Keller wasn't there. That is who I have heard to much about. Maybe next time...

We then walked to Central Park and laid out! Where else can you walk from church a few blocks and lay in your bathing suit in the park!

After the loveliness of Central PArk, we returned to Queens for laundry and homework... back to intern life.

Until next weekend!

Really Cool College Girls...

Hookie Cookie!- What are those you ask?! They are not scandalous cookies like the name might suggest but rather they are cookie cutters in the shape of animals that "hook" onto your milk glass!
Miranda bought the cookie cutters for me for my b-day so... I had to try them out immediately.
When Miranda got home from work last night I made us some funfetti sugar hookie cookies! A dog, a toucan, a squirrel, and a dolphin!

We then had to have a photo shoot with our hookie cookies! Yes, we are crazy college students! The Family we are living with for the Summer are so great and the husband thought we were ridiculous for playing with our cookies.
I really think the reason we loved them so much is because its the simple things (away from the crazy real life hookie and bookie) in life that preserve your mind.

Whatever makes you happy, I guess...

Until Next Time,

Miranda

Wedding Cakes

THERE ARE SO MANY WEDDINGS!

So, because "wedding" is on so many people's minds in my little world, I thought I would offer an idea for a great wedding cake that is both personal and unique to you...

I know I shared this on Facebook but another friend got engaged the other day and I found out last night and thought of this cake again. I really should be a party planner/decorator (like our friend, Martha Stewart), because obviously I will bring unique and fun ideas to the table! AND I can be your new Martha (Stewart). Not that I will be changing my last name anytime soon. Don't start any rumors...

Look like your cake all day! ... until you are eaten.
Every guest will feel close to you!

Learned something New!

So at work yesterday, things were crazy! My 2 bosses plus their partner were getting ready for an event thats like speed dating for investors. They needed a visual display and that was my responsibility. Problem is... we don't have any supplies to make a visual display. I went on a search for an Exacto knife... problem is is that in New York there is a law that people under 21 can't buy them... so therefore regular office supply stores do not carry them. I found one finally and was carded!
The guy at Staples tried to tell me that they are illegal in the USA. I said no... we have them in Alabama and we have guns! Don't know if that helped my argument.
So lesson of the day- children and people under 21 may not cut themselves with Exacto knives in NYC.
